Wonder Woman is no longer an honorary ambassador at the United Nations, following protests. It was announced in October that the veteran DC Comics character was to be used as part of an ’empowerment campaign’ for women and girls in 2017. “Although the original creators may have intended Wonder Woman to represent a strong and independent ‘warrior’ woman with a feminist message, the reality is that the character’s current iteration is that of a large breasted, white woman of impossible proportions,” the petition read.
Much like her ‘Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice’ co-star Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot won over her detractors with her performance as Wonder Woman in Zack Snyder’s divisive superhero face-off movie. As such, hopes are high that Gadot will really come into her own when she takes the spotlight in the upcoming ‘Wonder Woman’ solo movie – the first big screen outing for the original super-heroine.
