Taco Bell Is Testing A New Naked Chalupa

For those with dietary restrictions, eating out at restaurants can be stressful if there aren't enough options to choose from. Taco Bell wants to change that and is introducing a plant-based version of their Naked Chicken Chalupa that is certified vegetarian and can be made totally vegan with customizations.

In their attempt to shut down the fast food chicken wars, Taco Bell recently debuted a Naked Chicken Chalupa on their menu. This item includes a taco shell made out of crispy, breaded chicken and is then stuffed with lettuce, cheddar cheese, diced tomatoes, and avocado ranch sauce.

Now, for those that prefer their meals plant-based, Taco Bell has a new version of the Naked Chalupa that is made with a pea protein base instead of chicken for the shell. It comes with all of the same toppings as the chicken counterpart, but can be customized to exclude the cheese and ranch to make it an option for vegan Taco Bell fans. For everyone else, you can add more toppings like nacho cheese sauce, beef, or steak if that's to your liking.

The new menu innovation is currently only being tested at one Taco Bell location in Irvine, California through June 27 and is going for $3.49 plus tax. As is the case with most fast food items that are released for a limited, exclusive test run there is a high chance that if it sees success it will eventually make its way to Taco Bell menus nationwide. We can only hope!
