We can’t learn it all from ‘Lady Bird’: What do Sacramento newcomers need to know?

We can watch “Lady Bird” for clues and read Joan Didion for answers, but there’s no substitute for just asking: Sacramento, how would you describe yourself?

Earlier this month, The Sacramento Bee introduced readers to the new California Utility Team. As excited as we are to already be tackling critical stories about the community, we still have major moves ahead.

In the coming months, all four members of the team will be relocating to Sacramento.

But we aren’t the only ones moving to the area. Between 2010 and 2020, the four-county Sacramento region grew by 11.6%, well over the statewide growth rate of 6%, according to the 2020 U.S. Census.

Given this influx of newcomers navigating what’s become the second fastest growing city in the state, we want to equip people moving to Sacramento with the inside scoop from locals. That’s where you come in.

Sacramentans, what should the newbies know? Are there any misconceptions you want to clear up? What would you want to change about the way outsiders think of Sacramento?

Whether you’ve lived in Sacramento your entire life, or you moved last year, fill out the form below to tell us what you think people get wrong about Sacramento and what you want them to know instead.

We’ll also be using #KnowSacramento on social media to talk about these questions, so join us online, too.
