In recent years, Sydney Sweeney has won many of us over as a breakout star on acclaimed series like HBO’s Euphoria and The White Lotus, but even being one of our favorite Gen Z celebrities, and as she's spent more time working with beauty professionals behind the scenes, she's also learned a thing or two about the products that work best for her skin.

The 24-year-old has mentioned having combination skin in multiple interviews, and she's one of many celebrities who are consistently transparent about their occasional struggles with acne.

“I get terrible cystic acne, I get rashes, I get red splotches that then turn dry and sting,” she once told Byrdie. “It’s just all over the place.”

Growing up, Sydney didn't know much about what she was supposed to be putting on her skin, though as she matured and became more familiar with her skin type, her simple routine became slightly more complex.

“I grew up just washing my face with water and lathering Nivea all over my face,” she said in an interview with The Cut. “As time went on, my skin became trickier, and I really struggled because I didn’t have access to the type of products my skin needed. Growing up, I would feel like people were just looking at my breakouts and not me.”

While most of us are used to treating acne as a nuisance, Sydney recognizes that dealing with the occasional breakout is just a part of getting older.

“When it comes to your face, it's going to break out,” she said. “No matter how many products, treatments, really anything you do... your hormones are so in play that it's not something that you can easily ‘figure out’ unless you're blessed with good genes."

The actress has spent the last few years learning how to treat her skin type, and when it comes to her overall beauty routine, she generally approaches it with a "whatever-works-for-me" kind of attitude.

Read ahead to learn about a few of Sydney Sweeney's skincare secrets as well as the products she swears by.

She starts her morning and nighttime routines off with micellar water.

Even when she’s not wearing makeup, the first step in both of her daily skincare routines involves the Bioderma Micellar Water, which she was introduced to while filming The Voyeurs.

“My skin was irritated from using makeup wipes so often,” she said. “I wish I’d discovered this in high school! It helps me remove any makeup or just clean my face and prep for my skin care.”

Her routine is filled with French beauty products.

While most of us have had our hearts stolen by the thousands of high-quality Korean beauty products that have taken over the industry in the last few years, Sydney admits that she’s also a big fan of French brands.

“I love French pharmacy products,” she previously told Glamour. “I filmed a movie in Montreal and was introduced to them, and they have helped my skin immensely.”

One of her favorites is the Embryolisse Lait Creme Concentre, a milky moisturizer with silk proteins to add firmness to the skin and reduce the appearance of fine lines.

“What’s crazy is it’s actually for dry skin to make it more oily, so I didn’t think it would work on me,” Sydney said of the product. “But my makeup artist used it on me about a year and a half ago, and it’s the only lotion that works for my skin when I’m wearing makeup.”

She prefers not to get facials.

Even though it’s typically recommended to get facials as often as possible, Sydney feels that, because she’s prone to breakouts, her skin fares better without them.

“Every time I go to a facialist, I always felt that my face would break out more,” she said. “I know they say it’s supposed to break out because they cleared your skin, but I feel like no one knows my skin better than I do.”

She uses a special hack to exfoliate

Sydney has always been transparent about her struggle with having combination, acne-prone skin. She also recognizes that skincare isn’t a one-size-fits-all topic, which is why she has a special approach to exfoliating.

“In the morning, I use both an exfoliator and gel cleanser,” she said. “I used to only use one or the other, but I found that mixing the two is actually key for my skin type. I don't even know if I'm doing it correctly, but it works for me.”

Her favorite two to mix are the Eau Thermale Avene Cleanance Cleansing Gel and the Caudalie Deep Cleansing Exfoliator. “I know there are mixed feelings on using exfoliators on your face, but since I started using this, my breakouts haven’t been as bad, and my makeup lays nicer,” she told The Cut.

She never skips her eye masks.

Aside from the basics like cleansing and moisturizing, if there’s any step in her skincare routine that Sydney makes sure to stay on top of daily, it’s caring for the skin under her eyes.

“I always, every single morning, use eye gel masks. Right now, I'm obsessed with the Peter Thomas Roth ones either the gold ones or the blue ones,” she told Byrdie. “But every morning, no matter what I'm doing, I put those on.”

The gold and blue ones she’s referring to are the brand’s 24K Gold Pure Luxury Lift & Firm Hydra-Gel Eye Patches, which are infused with gold to help firm and brighten the skin under the eyes, while the blue Water Drench Hyaluronic Cloud Hydra-Gel Eye Patches hydrate the skin and reduce the appearance of fine line and crow’s feet.

She’s a big fan of skin icing.

Much unlike other celebrities with top notch skincare routines, Sydney's not very big on getting facials, but whenever she’s in the mood to show her skin some extra love, she turns to icing.

“I have this ice roller that I got off of Amazon, that is the size of my face,” she said in an interview. “Every day literally while I’m in my car heading to set, I’m just rolling my entire face with this ice roller. It helps immensely.”

For the uninitiated, skin icing is a technique that involves rolling actual ice or cold facial tools across the face in order to reduce inflammation and puffiness. Plenty of celebs and facialists have been doing it for years, but the inexpensive treatment really took off last year thanks to TikTok.
