In a time of change Sky News spent a critical year on a farm
Many months before farmers found themselves on the front pages of newspapers, after protesting in Whitehall against the new government's inheritance tax rules, we at Sky News embarked upon a project. This, after all, was the year the new post-Brexit regime for farm payments would come into full force. The upshot of these deals is that UK farmers are now competing with two of the world's major food exporters, who can export more into Britain than they do currently.

Environment's winners and losers after mild, wet weather in 2024
This year's climate was good news for parts of the country's environment, but for some wildlife the weather's effect was negative, the National Trust has said. Grey seals established their first colony in Suffolk, at Orford Ness, in a sign of the species' continued recovery, with the seals thought to have chosen to breed there due to the low risk of disturbance in the remote spot and as numbers spilled over from other colonies along the coastline. The wet and cool spring hit insects, with butterfly numbers much lower than normal, and some previously recorded species not seen at all at some National Trust properties.

Three reasons why Trump won't treat India like China
President-elect Donald Trump has made it clear that he is a China hawk, threatening to increase tariffs on imports from the country once he gets into office. But he hasn't said much about the world's most populous country, India. REMUS Capital CEO Krishna Gupta thinks Trump will treat India differently than China for three reasons. First, India is "more aligned" with the United States' foreign policy, which could lead Trump to view the country as an ally. The second reason is a better trade balance between the two countries than there is between the US and China. Third, Gupta argues, "the demographics of India and the stable governance of India put it in a class of one of one. There's no other country and economy that is as vibrant, as large, and as free to do business with as India is today from an American businessman's perspective."
