Sutton: 82-year-old woman dies in south London house fire

An 82-year-old woman has died in a house fire in Sutton.

Part of the ground floor of a semi-detached house on Morden Way was damaged by the fire.

Firefighters found the body of a woman on the ground floor and she was pronounced dead at the scene. Her next of kin have been informed.

The London Fire Brigade said it was called at 2.24am on Monday. Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters from Sutton, Mitcham, Wimbledon and New Malden fire stations attended the scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The Metropolitan Police were called to assist at the scene and said “the fire is not believed to be suspicious, although officers remain on scene as fire investigators carry out enquiries into the cause”.
