Sutter County head-on crash kills 1, injures another during dense fog

A 24-year-old man from Chico has died and the driver of another vehicle suffered major injuries in a head-on crash in Sutter County early Sunday morning, authorities said. It happened just before 2 a.m. on State Route 99 just south of Nicholas Avenue, according to a California Highway Patrol report. Authorities said the crash happened when it was very foggy, with about 75 feet of visibility. A 60-year-old man from San Jacinta was driving south in the northbound lane of the highway, CHP said. The 24-year-old was driving north. Authorities said neither driver was able to make evasive maneuvers before both vehicles collided head-on in the northbound lane.
