Survivor recalls scenes from Egypt church fire

STORY: An electrical fire broke out just before 9 a.m. (0700 GMT) during Mass as 5,000 people gathered at the Coptic Abu Sifin church in the Imbaba neighborhood, security sources said.

“There were children in the nursery and there was a mass," said Kirollos. "We looked up, and saw a lot of black fumes in the air."

The fire blocked an entrance to the church, causing a stampede and killing at least 41 people, the two sources said, adding that most of those killed were children.

At least 45 people were injured in the blaze.
