Here’s how to support residents displaced by major fire at a Miami Gardens condo building

Francilia Jean is comforted as a fire engulfs her two-story apartment building at 395 NW 177 Street on Saturday morning Saturday, Jan. 28, 2023.

A major fire at a two-story, 75-unit apartment building in Miami Gardens displaced more than 100 people this weekend, according to authorities.

Although there were no deaths reported Saturday at the New World Condominium, 395 NW 177th St., heavy fire damage and a partial roof collapse indicate that the road to recovery for many families will be an uphill battle.

As of Sunday, 56 people and three pets were staying at the Betty T. Ferguson Recreational Complex in Miami Gardens — where they are receiving food and shelter, according to the American Red Cross.

Another 15 residents have signed up to receive such services.
