New DC bosses James Gunn and Peter Safran have found their stars for Superman: Legacy.

According to Deadline, David Corenswet — who has appeared in Netflix's The Politician and HBO's We Own This City — will play the Man of Steel, while Emmy-winning Marvelous Mrs Maisel star Rachel Brosnahan has been cast as Lois Lane.

The two actors reportedly won the roles following an extensive casting process that also saw Nicholas Hoult, Tom Brittney, Emma Mackey and Phoebe Dynevor in the running for the two key roles.

The deals were reportedly signed at a rushed pace before a possible actors strike, set to go into effect at midnight on June 30.

It's unclear if the duo will be unveiled at San Diego Comic-Con next month, as a potential SAG-AFTRA strike would bar them — and any other actors — from promoting projects until the strike is resolved.

Gunn tweeted that the casting reports were "accurate", adding: "They are not only both incredible actors, but also wonderful people."

Gunn announced he'd be writing the Superman franchise late last year after also confirming that Henry Cavill wouldn't be returning as Clark Kent despite his cameo in Black Adam.

More recently, Gunn revealed he'd direct the project as well. He also praised all the actors involved in the audition process earlier in the month.

"Amazing amazing weekend of auditions for Superman: Legacy. I'm blown away by some of these actors, among the best I've ever seen or worked with," he wrote on Bluesky Social.

Gunn has described Superman: Legacy as the first "full movie" in his and Safran's DC Universe, though he also acknowledged that Xolo Maridueña's Blue Beetle is the first actual character in this new continuity.

This first chapter of the DCU will feature the return of The Flash director Andy Muschietti for the Batman movie The Brave and the Bold. Films are also in the pipeline for The Authority, Supergirl and Swamp Thing.

Superman: Legacy will debut in cinemas on July 11, 2025.
