Superman flies into cinemas next summer kickstarting a new era of DC movies, and filming has now officially wrapped.

Writer/director James Gunn shared a new set photo on Instagram, taken on the first week of filming in Norway, to reveal the exciting news alongside a heartfelt message.

"And that's a wrap. God bless our cast and crew whose commitment, creativity, and hard work have brought this project to life," he wrote.

"I set out to make a movie about a good man in a world that isn't always so much. And the goodness and kindness and love I've encountered on a daily basis on the set has inspired me and thrust me forward when I felt too spent to move on my own.

"Thank you all from the bottom of my heart. It has been an honour. The destination has been Superman, but the journey has been the toil and the laughter and the emotions and ideas and magic we've shared together on set – and for that I am forever grateful."

Superman – originally titled Superman: Legacy – stars David Corenswet as Clark Kent/Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor.

They're leading a cast that also includes Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner/Green Lantern, Anthony Carrigan as Rex Mason/Metamorpho, Wendell Pierce as Perry White and Pruitt Taylor Vince as Jonathan Kent.

While Superman is the first movie to be released from the new DC Universe, it won't be the beginning of the new extended universe.

That honour will go to animated show Creature Commandos which is set to land on Max in December 2024. The first trailer for the show was revealed recently during a DC panel at Comic-Con.

Superman is released in cinemas on July 11, 2025.
