Super Mario's Anya Taylor-Joy compares Princess Peach to Mad Max's Furiosa

Mad Max's Furiosa and Super Mario's Princess Peach don't really have a lot in common. One is a war captain tasked with driving across a post-apocalyptic desert, while the other lives in a castle with a bunch of chirpy cartoon mushroom people as her subjects.

But Anya Taylor-Joy — who plays Furiosa in the upcoming Fury Road prequel titled, well, Furiosa, and Peach in The Super Mario Bros Movie — disagrees.

Speaking exclusively to Digital Spy, the actress explained: "I was making Furiosa for Mad Max, whilst doing this. And so I’m like: 'Interesting.' It's bizarre that the two characters in my filmography that have the most in common are Princess Peach and Furiosa. That’s pretty rad."

She continued: "They're both very good on a bike. Very good on a bike. And have a singular purpose. And will stop at nothing to achieve it.

"I think that's as much as I can say without getting into some real trouble."

What other similarities between the two are there that are so potentially spoilerific that Anya would get in trouble?

Once The Super Mario Bros Movie is out, we might have to start taking bets on which plot points in it will also end up in Furiosa...

One big criticism of Princess Peach over the years is that she is all too often a 'damsel in distress', constantly getting kidnapped by Bowser and waiting for Mario to save her.

In the movie, however, it's Luigi who gets kidnapped and needs to be rescued — something that actor Charlie Day argues suits his character really well.

The Super Mario Bros Movie is released in cinemas tomorrow (March 5).
