How is a Super Bowl organization built? Chiefs CEO shares his blueprint in new podcast

Chiefs chairman and CEO Clark Hunt said he learned a few big lessons some 12-15 years ago, when things weren’t going well for the Chiefs, that led him to make philosophical changes in the organization.

Those changes helped pave the way for the sustained success that the Chiefs enjoy today.

“I think about that period frequently,” Hunt said. “I knew we were going to have a tough time. When I took over we had a very old roster and had not drafted well.”

Hunt discussed this and other matters Tuesday with a small group of reporters near the site of Super Bowl LVII. You’ll hear the entire interview on today’s episode of SportsBeat KC, The Kansas City Star’s sports podcast that this week is originating from the Phoenix area.

Hunt also recalls the process of hiring Andy Reid and general manager Brett Veach and shares some thoughts on today’s changing revenue streams, and how those changes might influence the organization’s decision-making about future stadium plans.
