Clint Bentley’s ‘Jockey’ Nabbed by Films Boutique (EXCLUSIVE)

Clint Bentley’s feature debut “Jockey,” set to world premiere in the U.S. Dramatic Competition in Sundance, has been acquired by Berlin-based Films Boutique for international sales.

Written by Bentley and Greg Kwedar (“Transpecos”), “Jockey” stars Clifton Collins Jr. as Jackson, a seasoned jockey who has weathered decades of races on the riding circuit, and now finds himself facing what could be his last season due to his deteriorating health. With the help of Ruth (Molly Parker) and a promising new horse, Jackson starts to prepare for the upcoming championship, while reflecting on his legacy.

The film shot at a live racetrack and is inspired by Bentley’s own experiences, which give the film its authenticity and naturalism. Moises Arias also stars in the film.

“We discovered the work of Clint with his short ‘9 Races’ and we have been very impressed and touched by ‘Jockey,'” said Jean-Christophe Simon, the CEO of Films Boutique.

“Served by a beautiful cast and a very strong filmmaking, ‘Jockey’ is a very moving piece set in a world we have rarely seen before and that will captivate the international audience,” said Simon. Films Boutique’s slate includes international award-winning arthouse films such as “Charlatan,” “Dear Comrades” and “There Is No Evil.”

Speaking about the film, Kwedar said the “life of a jockey can be brutal and unforgiving, but full of optimism for the next race, the next time into the gates.” He added: “I think it’s a story we can all relate to.”

The film is produced by Bentley, Kwedar, Nancy Schafer, and co-produced by Linda Halbert. The deal was negotiated by Oliver Wheeler at ICM and Simon and Gabor Greiner from Films Boutique.

“Jockey” is executive produced by Larry Kalas, Larry Kelly, Linda and Jon Halbert, Cheryl and Walt Penn, Genevieve and Mark Crozier, Cindy and John Greenwood, Ann Grimes, Jay Old, Ben Fuqua, Jordy Wax, and Clifton Collins Jr.
