Suicide Squad Set To Open To Epic Box Office Debut

There’s not long until David Ayer’s ‘Suicide Squad’ hits cinemas, but while DC will be crossing their fingers for a hit, indication is it’ll open to enormous profits.

According to early forecasting (as reported on our US movies site), the upcoming comic book action movie will make around $125 million in its US opening weekend over 5-7 August.

Some analysts reckon it could even exceed this amount, likely depending on factors such as whether early reviews are glowing or not. That said, ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’ had a mixture of good, middling, and awful reviews prior to release, but still made a significant amount of money in its first week before dropping off to a record slump in its second.

While DC will be eager to compete with Marvel’s ‘Captain America: Civil War’ and even Fox’s ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’, it should be looking at the surprise superhero movie of the year in ‘Deadpool’ for both inspiration and competition. Despite its R-rating (that’s a 15 certificate in the UK), the Ryan Reynolds-fronted movie scooped an impressive $132.4 million in its US opening weekend, which has since seen the Merc with a Mouth adventure amass $782 million, which isn’t far behind ‘Dawn of Justice’s’ slightly underwhelming $873 million.

‘Suicide Squad’ looks set to be one of Warner Bros. and DC’s biggest movies to date, and it’s certainly gaining a massive amount of attention. Not only has it a superlative and vast ensemble, including the likes of Margot Robbie, Jared Leto, Will Smith, Cara Delevingne, Common, Jai Courtney, Ben Affleck, and Viola Davis, but it’s arguably now the most important film for the studio and DCEU moving forward.

‘Suicide Squad’ is in UK cinemas from 5 August.
