Succession's fourth and final season has a "good ending" according to Matthew Macfadyen.

Winner of last year's Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series thanks to his hilariously twisted performance as Tom Wambsgans, Macfayden spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about the HBO show's imminent fade to black.

"It was sort of awful," he said of bidding goodbye to his regular collaborators. "But I will say that I think it's a good ending. I think it works."

Other than that, and rather unsurprisingly, Macfayden couldn't delve into the granular details of season 4, but he did share a specific appreciation for the way Succession scenes are executed on those luxurious and envy-inducing sets.

"I love that they're quite bloody-minded and gladiatorial in that we shoot a 10 or 12-page scene in one continuous take, and then do that eight or nine times over."

This comes after Brian Cox, who plays the volcanic Logan Roy, admitted he's "happy" the series is coming to a close this year.

"I think we've, you know, got to the point where the show has reached its natural closure," shared the actor just recently to Entertainment Tonight, while highlighting his faith in showrunner Jesse Armstrong.

"Jesse won't let anything go on further than it needs to. A lot of shows outstay their welcome, and I think our show is perfect, and neat, in the way it is.

"In a good way, I'm happy it's over," Cox added. "I'll miss the people I work with. They're the key."

Succession airs on HBO in the US, and Sky Atlantic and NOW in the UK.
