Studio Ghibli reveals first look at new movie The Boy and the Heron
Studio Ghibli has released a first look at the mysterious new movie The Boy and The Heron ahead of its international release.
The thirteenth film from Hayao Miyazaki, The Boy and The Heron centres around a boy who travels to a magical underground world in order to save his family.
Despite being released in Japan back in July, the film has previously had no promotion whatsoever, with the absence of trailers and a synopsis and its one promotional poster causing intrigue amongst fans.
In the 14 newly released images, fans can finally get their first glimpse of the movie, with imagery including a badly injured heron, a young boy talking to a man with bird legs and a woman running a nursing home.

Other images also provide a first look at several of the leading characters as well as a crowd of marshmallow-like spirits and bird-king brandishing a sword.
The Boy and The Heron is Miyazaki's first film in a decade, and is inspired by Yoshino Genzaburo's 1937 story of the same name. Set during the events of WWII, 12-year-old Mahito Maki is evacuated to the countryside after the death of his mother.
Living in the village of his new stepmother, Mahito encounters a mysterious grey heron who leads him into a magical underground world with the promise of being able to save his family.
