New strudel restaurant in downtown Columbia sets grand opening date

A new strudel restaurant has announced a grand opening date in downtown Columbia’s Main Street District.

The Strudel Shop will have a grand opening at noon Jan. 27 at 1237 Washington St. The opening will be attended by Mayor Daniel Rickenmann and other city officials, per a release from the city’s economic development office.

Owner Kevin Kelly is opening the Columbia Strudel Shop, making a move from Charlotte after the business outgrew its space there. The shop on Washington Street will serve “sweet and savory” strudels, Neapolitan pizzas, and Horchata Vietnamese coffee.

The Strudel Shop will be located in the spot formerly operated by M Fresh.

The strudel joint is one of several restaurants that have been making moves to set up shop in the city center. Taco Grande is slated to open at 1212 Hampton St. this year. That’s the spot that was formerly occupied by Fancy That Bistro. Taco Grande will specialize in street tacos and nachos.

Meanwhile, the Ambrosia Taverna Greek restaurant is planning a spot on the 1700 block of Main Street. Takosushi, an Asian and Southwest fusion restaurant, is coming to the Arcade Mall along Main Street.

And MOA Korean BBQ and Bar recently announced it would open a 6,000-square-foot restaurant at 1333 Main St., with an opening date targeted for the fall.
