How to stream the Tokyo Olympics live on Hulu, Peacock and other platforms

The Tokyo Olympics are officially underway, but how can cord cutters take part in this year’s action?

NBC will air the Games with the help of five cable networks: USA Network, CNBC, NBCSN, Olympic Channel and the Golf Channel.

  • USA Network coverage includes swimming, track and field, diving, beach volleyball, volleyball, cycling, triathlon, basketball, soccer and water polo.

  • CNBC will show air diving, beach volleyball, skateboarding, rowing, canoeing, archery, water polo and rugby.

  • NBCSN offers soccer, softball, beach volleyball, table tennis, handball, badminton, fencing and equestrian.

Telemundo and Universo will have extensive coverage for Spanish-language viewers. The Olympics will also air on NBCOlympics.com and the NBC Sports app.

Viewers can access these channels through various streaming services, although offers can vary by location.

How to stream the Olympics on Peacock

NBC's streaming service, Peacock, has a free tier that will show live gymnastics, track and field action and all of Peacock’s Tokyo Olympics programming.

Peacock Premium, which costs $4.99 a month, offers live games played by the U.S. men’s basketball team. Peacock Premium Plus – which removes ads – costs $9.99 a month.

Beginning Saturday, four live studio shows will stream for free on Tokyo NOW, Peacock’s channel for live coverage, highlights, interviews and stories of the Games.

The shows include:

  • Tokyo LIVE, which shows live competition from 6-11 a.m. EDT

  • Tokyo Gold, which reviews the competition day from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. EDT

  • On Her Turf at the Olympics, a program that focuses on female athletes from 7 to 7:30 p.m. EDT

  • Tokyo Tonight, which shows highlights of the Games from 7:30 p.m. to midnight EDT

Up to three devices linked to a Peacock account can stream at one time.

Peacock is available on Roku, Apple devices, Google platforms and devices, Chromecast and Chromecast built-in devices, Microsoft’s Xbox One, Xbox One S and Xbox One X; Sony PlayStation4 and PlayStation 4 Pro; Samsung Smart TVs; VIZIO SmartCast TVs; and LG Smart TVs.

Comcast’s eligible Xfinity X1 and Flex customers, and eligible Cox Contour customers, can watch Peacock Premium included with their service at no additional cost.

How to stream the Olympics on Hulu + Live TV

Hulu offers Olympics coverage, but you’ll have to pay for Hulu + Live TV.

The streaming service offers Live and On-Demand TV from more than 75 live channels and lets viewers record live events with its cloud DVR. Channels vary by location, but you can check which channels are offered in your location on Hulu’s website.

Hulu offers:

  • NBC (only available to viewers with an NBC affiliate in their area)

  • Olympic Channel

  • USA

  • CNBC

  • Golf Channel

  • Telemundo

  • NBC Universo (available to viewers with Hulu’s Espanol add on)

Hulu subscribers are able to stream from two different screens at one time.

FuboTV offers livestreaming of more than 100 channels, including:

  • NBCSN

  • USA Network

  • CNBC

  • Olympic Channel

  • Golf Channel

  • Telemundo

  • Universo

The streaming service offers 4K viewing of the Olympics on NBC, Golf Channel and Olympic Channel 4K HDR coverage in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Dallas-Fort Worth and Boston.

FuboTV can be streamed on computers, iPhones, iPads, Android phones and tablets, Roku, Apple TV, Chromecast, Samsung Smart TV, Xbox One and Amazon Fire TV.

Prices vary by plan and selected add-ons, but a popular plan with more than 100 channels starts at $64.99 a month. New subscribers are offered a seven-day free trial.

Up to two devices can stream at once, and a third stream can be added to an account for an additional $5.99 a month.

YouTube TV offers more than 85 channels for $64.99 per month and charges $54.99 per month for the first three months for new subscribers. Available channels vary by subscribers’ location but include:

  • NBC

  • CNBC

YouTube TV works with Google Chromecast, Apple TV, Fire TV and Roku players and TVs. YouTube TV apps are available for smart TVs and game consoles. Up to three devices can stream at the same time.

The streaming service will have NBC, Golf Channel and Olympic Channel 4K coverage nationwide.

How to stream the Olympics on Sling

The service offers two streaming options – Sling Blue and Sling Orange – for $35 a month and $10 the first month.

Channels include:

  • NBC (in select markets)

  • NBCSN

  • USA Network

  • CNBC (for an extra $6 a month)

  • Olympic Channel

  • Golf Channel (for an extra $11 a month for Sling Blue or $15 a month for Sling Orange)

Sling Blue allows up to three streaming devices at once, while Sling Orange allows just one at a time.

Sling is available on Apple TV, Roku, Amazon Fire TV, Chromecast, phones, computers, tablets and Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S and Xbox One consoles.
