A 'Stranger Things' Actor Shockingly Spoiled the Duffer Brother's Spinoff Plans

Fresh off its Stranger Things season 5 news, the Duffer Brothers keep surprising fans. The latest? A Stranger Things spinoff series that's bound to rock Hawkins to its core.

Smashing records left and right with the show's latest season 4, Matt and Ross Duffer recommitted to Netflix with the promise of more projects from their joint production company, Upside Down Pictures. One exciting idea that spawned from the new venture is an untitled (and yes, official!) Stranger Things spinoff show, Deadline reported.

It's already sent fans spiraling into plot theories that consider everyone from Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) to Steve (Joe Keery) and Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo). Plus, even another super-powered number. Sorry to report though, but it's not within the Duffer Brothers' realm of possibility.

In their recent appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, the duo said that the spinoff will be "1,000 percent different" and related to the original show by its "storytelling sensibility," not its familiar faces.

"That's not interesting to me because we've done all that," the brothers said on the show. "We've spent I don't know how many hours exploring all of that. So it's very different."

Funny enough, one original cast member knows all about the new show despite there been no writing yet in progress. "Somehow Finn Wolfhard — who is one crazy smart kid — correctly guessed what it was going to be about," Ross and Matt wrote in an email to Variety. "But aside from Finn, no one else knows!"

Unlike the hit Netflix original, Matt and Ross said that they're planning to pass the baton on to a new showrunner they entrust, so they can work on their other new projects. That person's still unknown, but they're in good company as Hilary Leavitt joins Upside Down Pictures as a creative partner. Her portfolio includes heavy media hitters BBC America and Hulu-based Blazer banner, plus work on Orphan Black, Ozark and The Great.

As for when we can expect the spinoff's release date, production will likely have to wait until the original series wraps. "There's a version of it developing in parallel [to season 5], but they would never shoot it parallel," Ross told Variety in June. "I think actually we're going to start delving into that soon as we're winding down and finishing these visual effects, Matt and I are going to start getting into it."

It seems the spinoff series is not even at its Demodog phase of its Demogorgon evolution, but we can't wait to see what else is in store.
