Storms are likely this week in KC, Missouri. Here’s where the heaviest rain will fall

As Kansas City enters its first week of spring, several rounds of showers and thunderstorms are likely, according to National Weather Service in Kansas City.

The storms could bring between one to two inches of rain to most of the metro area by the end of the work week, according to the weather service.

The first round of storms are expected to arrive Tuesday. Between a quarter and half inch of rain is expected to fall across the Kansas City area before the storms move out, according to the weather service.

There’s a chance that some strong storms could develop, including some isolated severe storms, on Wednesday evening.

The weather service’s Storm Prediction Center has placed the Kansas City area, as well as northeast Kansas and northern Missouri, under a marginal risk of severe thunderstorms on Wednesday, the lowest ranking on its scale of severe thunderstorms.

Widespread flooding is not expected at this time, the weather service said.

Meanwhile, southern and eastern parts of Missouri are bracing for the possibility of excessive rainfall as well as severe weather Thursday evening into Friday morning.

While those storms are likely to develop south of the Kansas City area, a few showers could be possible, according to the weather service.

People with outdoor plans are being advised to monitor the forecast, the weather service in Springfield said on Twitter.

Heavy rains are also in eastern Missouri as a slow-moving cold front pushes through the area, including the St. Louis area, according to the weather service.

“Areas along and south of I-70/I-64 have higher chances of seeing at least 1 inch of rain,” the National Weather Service in St. Louis said on Twitter. “An axis of heavier rain is becoming more probable within that area, though it’s location is unclear.”
