Stocks plummet as rates keep rising

Winners and losers

Stocks in the red today include Yelp as it plans to take a loss in 2018 as it ramps up further investment, Teva as the generic drugmaker 2018 guidance fell short of expectations, and Tesla – shares dropping after it reported profit and revenue that was better than expected, but its overall loss was its biggest ever. For now, Tesla is standing by recently revised production forecasts for the Model 3.

There were some winners today. Stocks in the green include Virtu Financial on the back of an earnings beat as the HFT firm is seen as benefiting from all the market volatility; Woodward, on reports Boeing is in talks to buy the aero-parts maker for $4.8 billion; and Twitter, with shares jumping to a 52-week high as Twitter easily beat on earnings and revenue, with daily active users up 12% from a year ago.
