SHANGHAI (Reuters) -Volkswagen will exit its controversial plant in China's Xinjiang region, after years of investor pressure to abandon its presence in the region, where rights groups have documented abuses including mass forced labour in detention camps. Volkswagen and its Chinese partner agreed to sell the asset to a Shanghai government-owned buyer, the German car maker said on Wednesday, confirming an earlier report by Reuters. The move will bring to an end years of mounting investor pressure to abandon VW's presence in the region, where rights groups have documented abuses including mass forced labour in detention camps.

BYD asks suppliers to cut prices as China auto war intensifies
BEIJING (Reuters) -Chinese automaker BYD is asking its suppliers to cut their prices, in a sign that a brutal price war in the world's largest auto market is set to escalate. Citing a leaked email dated Nov. 26 from BYD, Chinese digital news outlet thepaper.cn reported on Wednesday that the Chinese electric vehicle giant had asked one unidentified supplier to reduce its prices by 10% from Jan. 1. "Annual price negotiations with suppliers are a common practice in the automotive industry," BYD's Brand and Public Relations Department general manager Li Yunfei said in his post.

Supermarket loyalty prices offer genuine savings, regulator rules
The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) said its review of 50,000 loyalty priced products showed that 92% offered genuine savings against the usual price. The watchdog's report found "very little evidence" of supermarkets inflating their 'usual' prices to make loyalty promotions seem like a better deal but it did call on firms to bolster access to their schemes. The CMA's report was published at a time of year when supermarket chains tend to scrap for market share by offering discounts to lock in customers for their Christmas grocery shopping.
