“Station 19” canceled at ABC after 7 seasons

During the final season, the series will celebrate its milestone 100th episode.

Station 19 has fought its final fire. EW can confirm that the upcoming seventh season of the ABC drama series will be its last.

News of the show's impending end comes after showrunner Krista Vernoff stepped away at the end of season 6, with Zoanne Clack and Peter Paige stepping in for season 7. Vernoff had been with the firefighting drama in that capacity since season 3, having initially taken over showrunning duties from Station 19 creator Stacy McKee, who helmed the first two seasons.

“For seven seasons Station 19 has been a highlight of the ABC lineup thanks to Shonda [Rhimes'] and Betsy [Beers'] incredible vision, beloved characters and compelling storytelling,” said Disney Television Group president Craig Erwich of the executive producers. “With Zoanne and Peter at the helm of the upcoming farewell season, we have so much to look forward to, most notably the celebration of the show’s milestone 100th episode.”

For the past six seasons, Station 19 has been celebrated for its boundary-pushing storytelling and depiction of the courage, strength, and determination of all heroic firefighters and first responders, with the show recently receiving a Sentinel Award from Hollywood, Health & Society for its depiction of systemic racism in season 6.

The series, which was the second Grey's Anatomy spinoff following Private Practice, stars Jaina Lee Ortiz, Jason George, Grey Damon, Barrett Doss, Alberto Frezza, Jay Hayden, Okieriete Onaodowan, Danielle Savre, and many more. The series is produced by ABC Signature, a part of Disney Television Studios, and Shondaland.

Station 19 will kick off its farewell season when it premieres Thursday, March 14, at 10 p.m. ET/PT.
