Stardew Valley creator unveils first look at his next game
Stardew Valley, the life-absorbing simulation game in which you're tasked with rebuilding a farm but the real task is getting Alex to notice and fall in love with you, has been out on every platform for a few years now, so what has sole developer Eric 'ConcernedApe' Barone been up to since then?
Apart from counting his well-earned cash, he's been hard at work making a brand-new game: ConcernedApe's Haunted Chocolatier, and he's announced it with some actual gameplay footage, which is always preferable to one of those glossy CGI trailer announcements that tells you next to nothing.

The game does look similar to Stardew, with a familiar UI, more gorgeous sprite work, giving people gifts and hacking away at beasties. This time around, the location is a haunted castle and you've got to run a successful chocolatier. Or at least pretend while you try and pursue some emotionally unavailable hottie, we assume.
"I intend for this game to be positive, uplifting and life-affirming. However, if Stardew Valley mostly channeled the energy of the sun, Haunted Chocolatier channels the energy of the moon. Both are vital," Barone wrote on his blog.
"While the video I put together may look like the game is at an advanced stage of development, there is still a ton of stuff to do. And the way I work, things often don't come together until the final moments. I tend to work with a 'vertical slice approach, and so it's easy to put together some video that looks like a finished game.

"But there is a ton of content I still need to make. So, please understand that it will be a while before this game is done. I'm going to be working on it as much as I can, though."
Stardew Valley is available on PS4, Xbox One, Switch, PC, iOS, Android, macOS and even the PS Vita.
