Star Wars Boosts Harrison Ford To Highest-Grossing Actor Of All Time

Thanks to a sturdy boost from ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’, Harrison Ford is now the highest-grossing actor of all time.

Figures on movie data site Box Office Mojo put Ford’s 41 movies at a total gross of – wait for it - $4.7 billion (£3.2 billion)

He averages a healthy $114.6 million (£78 million) gross per movie, with 'The Force Awakens’ his highest-grossing movie so far.

Ford beats Samuel L. Jackson into second place, who despite a shorter career than Ford, has put the hours in, making 68 movies.

His total movie gross is just behind Ford’s at $4.6 billion (£3.1 billion), 'The Avengers’ being the movie that’s bumped him up the pecking order.

Making up the rest of the top five are Tom Hanks ($4.33 billion - £2.96 billion), Morgan Freeman ($4.31 billion - £2.94 billion) and Eddie Murphy ($3.8 billion - £2.6 billion).

The news of Ford topping the chart comes after 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ became the highest-grossing movie ever in the US, with its domestic haul of $764,408,684 (£522 million) beating 'Avatar’s record.

So far the movie has made £1.07 billion worldwide.

However, it still has a huge way to go if it wants to become the biggest movie of all time, with the first 'Star Wars’ movie still ahead of it, adjusting for inflation.

'Gone With The Wind’ remains the highest-grossing movie of all time, having made £2.3 billion.
