All-star game with UK recruits canceled. And top Kentucky basketball recruiting links.

Reed Sheppard helped lead North Laurel to the Sweet Sixteen last season and will be looking for a return trip out of the 13th Region.

Kentucky basketball fans were probably intrigued this month when it was announced that an all-star basketball game featuring several of the country’s top recruits — including several UK commits — was planned for Aug. 27 in Lexington.

The Midwest Charity Classic was to feature a plethora of the country’s top high school talent playing in Lexington, with the game acting as a fundraiser for flood-relief efforts in Eastern Kentucky.

Among the players who pledged to play in the contest were class of 2023 UK commits Robert Dillingham and Reed Sheppard, and class of 2024 UK target Travis Perry.

But due to a Kentucky High School Athletic Association rule, Sheppard (North Laurel High School) and Perry (Lyon County High School) wouldn’t have been able to play in the game, which was canceled Thursday afternoon.
