Spring Valley, Lower Richland girls win titles. Area playoff races taking shape

Two Midlands teams won region championships while other races started to come into play Tuesday night.

Spring Valley and Lower Richland girls both captured region titles in dominant fashion. Spring Valley defeated Nation Ford, 78-48, to win the Region 3-5A championship. The Vikings will have homecourt advantage until the Upper State championship.

Tyra Floyd scored 19 points and Chi’Nya Isaac had 18 in LR’s 58-29 win over Orangeburg-Wilkinson to win the Region 5-3A championship. The Diamond Hornets are guaranteed of at least two home playoff games.

Other key action from Tuesday:

▪ Irmo and AC Flora boys stayed atop the Region 5-4A standings. Irmo defeated Westwood, 69-46. Madden Collins scored 23 points and Brandon Crawford had 17. The Yellow Jackets used a 13-0 run to close the third quarter to take control of the game.

Irmo clinches the region with a win Friday at Lugoff-Elgin or AC Flora loss.

▪ AC Flora defeated L-E, 41-34, and can win the region Friday with a win at Ridge View and Irmo loss. CP Parker had 13 in Flora win.

▪ Luke Chapman scored 26 points and River Bluff wrapped up the No. 2 seed in Region 4-5A with a 59-52 win over Dutch Fork.

▪ Dutch Fork girls set up a winner-take all game Thursday against Lexington after a 52-29 win over River Bluff. Hillary Offing had 26 points.
