Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse confirms Netflix US release date

Netflix US subscribers will soon be able to watch Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.

A sequel to the Oscar-winning Into the Spider-Verse, the animation's streaming release date was announced on X this week with the message: "His name is Miles Morales. He was bitten by a radioactive spider. I'm pretty sure you know the rest.

"Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse comes to Netflix in the US on October 31!!!"

For now, though, Netflix UK users will have to bide their time.

Speaking to Empire Magazine recently, Across the Spider-Verse co-director Justin K Thompson opened up about the decision to change the movie's ending.

In the final cut, we saw Gwen Stacy (voiced by Hailee Steinfeld) cobbling together a new team of Spider-People to locate Miles Morales, but this wasn't always the case.

"I was really worried about it until about six weeks before we finished the movie, and we added it. The movie kind of fell flat at the end and was really a bummer," Thompson began.

"We had a screening and thankfully we were able to come up with the strategy of how to bring all these characters back together, and bring the Spot back – because he didn't come back – and show Rio and Jeff, and tag all the characters."

Serving up a Star Wars reference, executive producer Christopher Miller went on to add: "We learned the same lesson that [Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back] learned.

"That movie used to end after he finds out the big twist and Han Solo gets taken away. They didn't have the scene where he gets the new hand and they stare out at the star field.

"They did that as a reshoot, because they felt like they needed a little bit of hope for the next film."

When Across the Spider-Verse ended up in cinemas, there were two slightly different versions of the movie, with changes in one scene between Oscar Isaac's Miguel O'Hara/Spider-Man 2099 and his assistant Lyla, and differing dialogue in another scene where Scarlet Spider is chasing Miles.

After viewers pointed out the differences, the movie's associate editor Andrew Leviton responded on social media, writing: "I was wondering when people might start noticing…"
