Ralph Gilles is one of the coolest people in the car business. He's the head designer at Stellantis and has a solid personal collection of enthusiast-centric metal. The latest addition to his garage is the most extreme yet: a SpeedKore-built 1968 Dodge Charger with a 1000-hp Hellephant supercharged V-8 under the hood. Its name? The Hellucination.

The Hellucination might look like a 1968 Charger, but it's virtually all-new. The car rides on a SpeedKore frame and uses all-carbon body panels, as well as a carbon floor and carbon tubs for the wheel wells. Under the hood sits a 7.0-liter supercharged 1000-hp Hellephant crate engine getting power to the rear wheels via a ZF eight-speed automatic. There's also double A-arm front suspension from Detroit Speed and a four-link rear end custom-made by SpeedKore. The car rides on Penske adjustable coilovers that support Brembo brakes and staggered HRE wheels measuring 19x9 up front and 20x12 in the rear. They're wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires.

The inside has been similarly revamped, with an all-new dashboard and center console setup meant to bring the 54-year-old car into the modern age. The dash, door panels, and rear interior panels are carbon fiber, as are the seatbacks. You'll also find a custom gauge cluster, steering wheel, and a 2000-watt sound system from Kicker Audio.

"I have thoroughly enjoyed the process with SpeedKore over the last two years, working together and thoughtfully debating the countless details of this build," Gilles said in a statement. "Growing up watching a certain orange car doing amazing things on TV as a kid started a love affair with the Dodge Charger and Mopar.

The ‘68 embodies so many fascinating details and amplifies the Dodge ethos perfectly," Gilles continued. "We still use it as a spiritual reference to this day as we design the next generation of performance cars. The car is as visceral to drive as it is to look at. It has deliciously precise steering and an abundance of lateral grip that allow me to truly put it through its paces.”
