Is South Florida clear of Ian? Will there be more storms? Wind? What the forecast shows

For some in South Florida Thursday became an unexpected day off with many schools and businesses giving students and employees a day off after two stormy days brought on by Hurricane Ian.

The Category 4 storm made a devastating landfall at Southwest Florida’s Cayo Costa island near Sanibel-Captiva Wednesday afternoon and was moving over east-central Florida Thursday morning en route to the Atlantic.

What is South Florida looking at today?

As many of you venture outside to check out your properties, run errands and so forth, you’ll see drier air filtering in, said meteorologist Chuck Caracozza of the National Weather Service in Miami.

“The main concern today is going to be the wind,” he said. “It is going to be windy pretty much throughout the entire day. Gusts up to about maybe 30 mph or 35 this morning and will be gradually diminishing later this afternoon. But most of the day will be pretty windy.

“There’s a chance of showers, fast moving showers, maybe an isolated thunderstorm, but everything will be pretty quick moving today,” Caracozza said.

What to know:

The Keys can expect a slight chance of showers, at 30%, dropping to minimal this weekend.

Temperatures will be in the upper 80s.

There is a high risk of rip currents along coastal Miami-Dade and Broward beaches.

A coastal flood advisory remains in the Florida Keys through 6 p.m. Thursday.
