South Carolina loses a commitment after recruit flips to Florida

South Carolina lost one of its higher-profile commitments on Wednesday night.

Four-star 2023 linebacker Jaden Robinson announced via Twitter he has flipped his pledge from USC to Florida, leaving a hole for the Gamecocks to fill heading into the fall.

Robinson — the No. 379 player and No. 32 linebacker in the class, per the 247Sports Composite — previously committed to South Carolina on July 4 following an official visit in June. The Gators staff had remained after the Lake City, Florida product following his announcement, eventually leading to Wednesday night.

South Carolina now has just one linebacker committed in its 2023 class in four-star Grayson “Pup” Howard, who’s also from the Sunshine State.

The Gamecocks now have 16 commitments in their class and remain in the mix for a handful of players that will announce their decisions before the seasons begins, including four-star defensive end Desmond Umeozulu and three-star athlete Vicari Swain.

Umeozulu has scheduled his commitment for Aug. 29, while Swain will announce his on Friday.
