Only last week saw Kurt Russell announced to appear in Marvel’s ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ sequel, and now ‘Sons of Anarchy’ star Tommy Flanagan has joined the ever-growing cast.

Heroic Hollywood say the actor will join an already confirmed Russell, as well as other newcomers Pom Klementieff, Elizabeth Debicki, and Chris Sullivan.

Flanagan is said to be playing the right-hand man of Ravagers leader Yondu Udonta, and adds to the expansive ‘Guardians’ universe that already hosts its established lead Chris Pratt and his team of Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, and Vin Diesel.

Other than his loyal role in ‘Sons of Anarchy’, Flanagan’s known for a number of high profile appearances in movies such as ‘Braveheart’, ‘Face/Off’ and ‘Gladiator’. It’s certanly a change from his womanising, violent exploits in the gripping television series.

James Gunn returns to direct ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2′ after the first, released in 2014, became the surprise hit of the year. It made an impressive $773 million, even though it was a previously untested, largely unknown set of characters introduced.

The sequel looks set to explore the origins of Peter Quill’s (that’s Pratt’s Star-Lord) parents, with speculation rife over who or what his biological father is.

‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2′ is in UK cinemas from 28 April, 2017.
