Massive winter storms swept the Northeast and South regions of the United States in early January, cutting power to tens of thousands of customers and causing thousands of flight cancellations. Many COVID-19 vaccination and coronavirus testing sites also had to close.

Jurgen Klopp admitted Liverpool have effectively played themselves out of the Premier League title race after defeat to Everton. The Reds were beaten 2-0 in Klopp’s final Merseyside derby, the first time they have lost at Goodison Park since 2010. The Toffees out-fought Liverpool and were a constant threat from set-pieces, with goals from Jarrad Branthwaite and Dominic Calvert-Lewin both coming from dead-ball situations.
The City of St. Petersburg is working to address flooding concerns in Shore Acres. Workers spent Wednesday morning installing yet another upgraded backflow preventer in the neighborhood. "It's a different design. So instead of being a duck bill, it's an actual cone. And that cone head doesn't have the challenge that the duckbill has in terms of things being able to get stuck underneath it, or being able to being stuck open. And so we believe that that new design will be watertight for longer," said Public Works Administrator Claude Tankersley.
Jamie Ross managed to flee on Tuesday 23 April after being let out of prison on day release to attend a funeral. The 29-year-old was last seen in Edinburgh around 12.28pm near the Cameron Toll shopping centre. Police said that Ross has connections across Edinburgh and in Aberdeen.
MONTREAL — Some 5,000 Quebec liquor corporation workers walked off the job on Wednesday for a planned two-day strike amid contract negotiations with their employer. Their union — the Syndicat des employé(e)s de magasins et de bureaux de la SAQ — confirmed at midnight on Facebook it was launching the strike after a lack of progress at the negotiating table. It says the two strike days are the first to be used under the union's 15-day strike mandate. The union said about 70 per cent of its members
Meta stock sank late Wednesday as the Facebook parent company's first-quarter results apparently failed to live up to sky-high expectations. While the company beat consensus expectations for both sales and earnings, Meta Platforms executives gave a lighter-than-expected sales forecast for the current quarter. Meanwhile, Meta's push to be a leader in generative artificial intelligence is adding to its costs.
The Kensington police department is looking for whoever left an anti-Black slur on a footbridge near the Confederation Trail in central Prince Edward Island.
