'SNL': Miley Cyrus covers Dolly Parton in moving Mother's Day opening tribute

Miley Cyrus opened "Saturday Night Live" with a moving cover of Dolly Parton's "Light of a Clear Blue Morning" – interspersed with the cast of "SNL" appearing side-by-side with their mothers in honor of "Mother's Day."

Some cast members' interactions with their mothers proved more entertaining than others. Bowen Yang's mom, for instance, Purell'd his face, a nod to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, while Aidy Bryant's mother plugged the third and final season of the star's Hulu series "Shrill." For her part, Cecily Strong was just happy to see her mother at all.

Cyrus closed the performance wishing a Happy Mother's Day to her godmother, Parton, as well as her mother, Tish Cyrus, who appeared beside her.

Host Elon Musk brought his mother to the show, too. "I'm excited for my Mother's Day gift," his mother, Maye, said during his monologue. "I just hope it's not Dogecoin."

He quipped back: "It is. It sure is."

Cyrus later performed "Without You" with The Kid Laroi, as well as "Plastic Hearts" on her own. She also appeared in a sketch about Mars with Musk.
