SLED investigating deaths of two Beaufort County students found in Jasper County Sunday

Two teens found dead in Jasper County on Sunday were Battery Creek High School students, according to a message from the school district to BCHS families. The victims were found near Etheridge Road, according to Jasper County Chief Deputy Jeff Crosby. The location is approximately a mile south of the I-95 Route 17 intersection.

The Jasper County Sheriff’s office handed off the case to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, who declined to share additional information about the ongoing investigation.

The district crisis counseling team was at BCHS today and the district director of counseling will be there for the rest of the week, according to School District Spokesperson Candace Bruder. She said they will determine the need for additional support on a daily basis. The message to BCHS families encouraged them to reach out to their school if they need help.

The Island Packet and Beaufort Gazette are awaiting information like the identity, time and cause death from the Jasper County Coroner’s Office as of Monday afternoon.
