Single and ready to mingle? It’s not just you. It’s actually hard to find love in Charlotte.

Charlotte may not be the best place to find a date.

Of the 182 largest cities in the U.S., Charlotte was ranked the 116th best city for singles, according to a recent WalletHub report. Two other cities in North Carolina, Fayetteville and Durham, ranked ahead of Charlotte, coming in at No. 64 and No. 77, respectively.

To rank each city, WalletHub compared them across three categories: economics, fun and recreation, and dating opportunities.

Charlotte received its lowest marks in dating opportunities, according to the report, coming in at No. 148. The score was calculated based on metrics like the share of the single population.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau’s 2021 American Community Survey, 76% of males and 69% of females in Charlotte aged 20 to 34 have never been married. In the 35-44 age group, the survey found that a third of males and females have never been married.

The report ranked Charlotte 55th in economics, a score based on factors like median annual household income and the median rent of a one-bedroom apartment.

The median household income in Charlotte is $65,359 and the median rent for a one-bedroom apartment is $1,185, according to the latest census data.

Charlotte landed at No. 57 for fun and recreation, weighing metrics like the percentage of residents who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and walkability.

Seattle was ranked No. 1 in the report, followed by Madison, Wisconsin, Denver, Colorado, San Francisco, California and Portland, Oregon.
