Simone Biles Is Ready for a "Fresh Start" Following the Preliminary Rounds

·2 min read

Even the greatest of all time feels the pressure. On Monday morning, four-time Olympic gold-medalist Simone Biles posted to Instagram following the preliminary portion of the Olympic gymnastics competition.

Biles is opening up about the pressure of the Olympics after a few errors during the qualifying round. (Don't worry, she still clenched the overall number one spot.)

"It wasn't an easy day or my best but I got through it," she wrote alongside a photo from the qualifying rounds and a selfie she took with a monitor showing her family watching at home. "I truly do feel like I have the weight of the world on my shoulders at times. I know I brush it off and make it seem like pressure doesn't affect me but damn sometimes it's hard hahaha! The olympics is no joke!"

She added that she was happy to see her family after the competition, even if it was just virtually. "I'm happy my family was able to be with me virtually 🤍 they mean the world to me!," she wrote.

Biles also posted a boomerang to her Instagram story in a new leotard and captioned it "fresh start," before heading back to the gym to continue training. She also poked fun at herself by sharing some hilarious snapshots of the many faces she made during the prelims round.

Former Olympic gymnast and sports announcer Nastia Liukin posted a sweet message of support for Biles to her Instagram story.

"I feel like at times, people forget that even the very best in the world are still human — with hearts, nerves, pain, stress, anxiety, pressure," the athlete who took home a record five medals at the 2008 Beijing Olympics (one gold, three silver, and one bronze) wrote. "So let's continue to spread our love and support to our athletes who are doing something SO difficult already, and then having to also handle the weight of an entire nation and world on their shoulders during a pandemic without fans. AND their number one supporters, their family,"
