An old tweet by Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) urging his constituents to buy more guns is getting new attention on Tuesday after 19 children and two teachers were murdered in a mass shooting at an elementary school in his state.
“Sick s**t,” wrote Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) as she shared the 2015 message.
Abbott at the time wrote that he was “embarrassed” that his state was ranked second in new gun sales.
“Let’s pick up the pace Texans,” he wrote, tagging the NRA.

Abbott’s critics shared the tweet anew on Tuesday.

This tweet from 2015 is still up. From the governor of Texas who just announced the mass murder of 14 kids to the world. I wonder if he's still "EMBARRASSED" about Texas not selling enough guns. https://t.co/3qiiTaNHAy

In case you were wondering why Americans continue to get slaughtered in grocery stores, churches, hair salons and schools. In case you were wondering why Texas is home to half the nation's deadliest mass shootings. In case you were wondering why @GovAbbott hasn't acted.

We've had 9 mass shootings in Texas since this tweet from Greg Abbott including today's shooting. Over 100 deaths within those mass shootings. And this doesn't count the countless number of gun violence deaths within the state since then. https://t.co/kXG0PDjdcJ

Need more proof that Abbott etc, are well-paid spokesmen hired by the gun lobby to sell as many as firearms-for-profit as possible, products sold exclusively to kill/wound living beings? And they're exploiting the 2A as a marketing ploy to do it, like swimsuit models in beer ads. https://t.co/CATxEvDsba

#2 in the country and there wasn't a single good guy to stop the Uvalde shooting from happening. https://t.co/0a3f3lKmcW

In September, Abbott signed into law a bill that removed the requirement for a license to carry a handgun.
Texans were already able to carry rifles without a license.
It also allowed 18-yr-olds to buy a gun if covered by a protective order for violence, stalking, trafficking. https://t.co/LLXMflzJC6
