A series of shootings in the Kansas City area Wednesday left two dead and three others injured, including teenagers, from the 18th and Vine District to Grandview.

The violence was a result of three separate shootings. One of the dead and one the injured were teenagers.

About 4 p.m., three people were shot, two critically near Grove Park on the eastern edge of Kansas City’s 18th & Vine neighborhood, according to police. All three victims are adults, two women and one man, and were in or around a parked SUV when they were shot, Capt. Josh Heinen of East Patrol said at the scene. The two women were the ones critically injured by gunfire, Heinen said, and all were taken by ambulance to an area hospital.

A little more than two hours later, an 18-year-old was shot and injured in the 5900 block of 136th Street in Grandview. The shooting followed an argument among family and friends in an apartment complex parking lot, according to police.

About 9 p.m., police called to an area near the intersection of 37th Street and Wayne Avenue in the Ivanhoe neighborhood found Michael K. Parks, 17, fatally shot.

Mayor Quinton Lucas posted a message on Twitter Thursday morning about the shootings.

“Thinking of the families impacted by violence in recent days,” he wrote. “A triple shooting and an additional murder--mid-week in October and our 4th triple shooting this month--are things we should never get accustomed to. This is why we push for progress.”

The homicides Wednesday brought the city’s total number of killings this year to 121. This time last year, the city had recorded 154 homicides.

Eight homicides have been reported so far in October. Last year there were three homicides reported by Oct. 14.
