‘Shadow and Bone’ Season 2 Sneak Peek: Alina Starkov Embraces Her Power (Video)

It seems like Alina Starkov (Jessie Mei Li) is finally embracing her powers — both literally, as a formidable Sun Summoner, and metaphorically, as she stands against love interest-turned-foe Darkling (Ben Barnes). In Netflix’s first sneak peek at “Shadow and Bone” Season 2, released as part of its global fan event Tudum, fans can see her step into her own.

The 40-second clip, which you can watch above, also features a look at new characters like Patrick Gibson’s (“The OA”) Nikolai Lantsov, who declares Alina is a “symbol.”

In a brief flash, audiences also get first glimpses at Lewis Tan (“Mortal Kombat”) and Anna Leong Brophy (“Traces”) as Tolya Yul-Bataar and Tamar Kir-Bataar, twin siblings and fellow Grisha Heartrenders. “The Witcher’s” Jack Wolfe is also depicted as Wylan Hendriks, a new Crows recruit.

Speaking of the Crows, fan-favorites Kaz Brekker (Freddy Carter), Kit Young (Jesper Fahey) and Inej Ghafa (Amita Suman) can also be seen making their swashbuckling returns. And, in one particularly steamy scene, Alina shares a passionate kiss with someone who looks strikingly like her best friend Mal (Archie Renaux).

Based on author (and executive producer on the series) Leigh Bardugo’s best-selling trilogy of the same name, and her “Six of Crows” duology, “Shadow and Bone” follows skilled mapmaker Alina Starkov as she taps into a rare, previously unknown, magical power. Season 1 followed her recruitment under General Kirigan (Barnes) to hone her abilities in the Ravka kingdom’s battle to defeat the Shadow Fold — a wide swath of darkness that has consumed everything in its path. However, evil forces conspired against her, forcing her down a dangerous road against determined enemies.

While no official “Shadow and Bone” Season 2 premiere date has been announced, the fantasy show wrapped production back in June.
