Sevilla vs Arsenal - LIVE!

Arsenal moved to the top of Group B and firmly on track for the Champions League knockout stages as they battled to a 2-1 win over Sevilla. The Gunners headed to Spain having lost their previous European match against Lens, a result that remains their only defeat of the season across all competitions.

A fairly dull first-half looked set to finish goalless as the fourth minutes of stoppage-time ticked away, but Arsenal's Brazilian duo up front had other ideas. Gabriel Jesus held the ball up and produced a stunning turn to create the space, playing Gabriel Martinelli clean through on goal and he held his nerve to go round the goalkeeper and finish into an empty net. Jesus then got a goal himself after the break, one his performance thoroughly deserved, and it was a strike to remember. He cut inside onto his right box as he jinked into the box, and curled a wonderful finish into the far corner to double the lead.

That two-goal advantage lasted only six minutes though, as Sevilla quickly got themselves back in it and woke the home fans up again. It came in frustrating fashion too from an Arsenal perspective, as Ivan Rakitic whipped a corner in and Nemanja Gudelj was allowed space to power a header beyond David Raya. The hosts piled on the pressure late on, the ball regularly launched into the Arsenal box and the visitors looking nervy in their own box, but they just about held firm for a victory that leaves them in pole position at the halfway point of the group-stage.

Produced one of the best assists you will see as he setup Martinelli to score. Followed it up with a wonder goal, which he curled into the top corner. A complete performance.

Ocampos is in... slices the shot wide!

And that's the final kick of the match. Arsenal have JUST about held on.

Big, big three points.

Sevilla 1-2 Arsenal

90+4 mins: WOW.

They very nearly equalise there as Rakitic whips a cross in, header nodded wide.

Arteta wants another defender on. Kiwior replaces Martinelli.

Sevilla 1-2 Arsenal

Two crosses are cleared straight up into the air, header that follows forces Raya into a pretty comfortable save.

Sevilla 1-2 Arsenal

86 mins: Trossard's fresh legs making a real difference for Arsenal.

Already he's tracked back really well on a couple of occasions to halt a Sevilla attack.

Sevilla 1-2 Arsenal

21:44 , Matt Verri

83 mins: Sevilla furious as Trossard wins a corner, they think it should be a goal-kick.

Arsenal don't care, this will tick away a few more seconds. Going to be a fair amount of added-time though you'd imagine.

Sevilla 1-2 Arsenal

81 mins: Jesus is limping off. Arsenal will be praying that isn't anything seriously.

Nketiah and Trossard coming on, with Saka also making way.

Sevilla 1-2 Arsenal

21:40 , Matt Verri

79 mins: Havertz takes a whack from Ramos, who won the header and not particularly accidentally left something on the Arsenal man.

Jesus meanwhile has gone down off the ball, home fans less than impressed.

This is a concern...

Sevilla 1-2 Arsenal

21:37 , Matt Verri

76 mins: Well that was inevitable.

Former Spurs man Lamela is shown a yellow card. In behind Saliba, launches himself to the ground and appeals for a penalty.

Dive. Yellow card.

73 mins: Arteta turns to his bench.

Odegaard, who has had a very quiet night, is off. Havertz on, as Jesus takes the armband.

Sevilla 1-2 Arsenal

21:33 , Matt Verri

71 mins: Arsenal clear the corner from Sevilla, and the visitors then prevent the ball from coming back in... well defended.

Tomiyasu is down in the box, looks like he might have been stood on. He's back up, fine to continue. Doesn't look very happy though.

Sevilla 1-2 Arsenal

21:28 , Matt Verri

68 mins: Diaz has company in the book.

High boot from Jorginho and he earns himself a yellow card. Arsenal struggling to calm things down, it's all very heated.

Sevilla 1-2 Arsenal

21:28 , Matt Verri

67 mins: Ball continues to be launched into the Arsenal box, visitors are looking shaky.

Couple of acrobatic efforts, neither of them troubling Raya.

Diaz then earns himself a yellow card for complaining to the referee... no idea what's annoying him. Probably the score.

Sevilla 1-2 Arsenal

21:25 , Matt Verri

64 mins: WHAT A SAVE!

Hold up, handball anyway. Wouldn't have counted.

Raya didn't know that, as he makes an sensational save to deny Diaz.

Sevilla 1-2 Arsenal

63 mins: And another Arsenal corner.

Martinelli to the back post, Rice is lurking but Sevilla just about scramble it away.

Sevilla 1-2 Arsenal

21:22 , Matt Verri

61 mins: Arsenal need to be very careful here. Pace is frantic all of a sudden, home fans are right up for it again.

Couple of corners for the visitors, second one curled straight out of play.

GOAL! Sevilla 1-2 Arsenal | Nemanja Gudelj 59'

21:20 , Matt Verri

Game on!

That will really annoy Arteta. Corner whipped in, Gudelj allowed far too much space and he powers the header home.

Sevilla 0-2 Arsenal

21:18 , Matt Verri

57 mins: Odegaard with a chance to make it three, Ramos there with a crucial block.

Arsenal threatening to really run away with this.

Simon Collings at the Ramon Ssnchez Pizjuan Stadium

21:15 , Matt Verri

Jesus is mobbed by the entire Arsenal bench after that goal, and rightly so.

He is flying right now after the assist. Playing with so much confidence.

GOAL! Sevilla 0-2 Arsenal | Gabriel Jesus 53'

21:14 , Matt Verri

He has been just outrageously good tonight.

On the left, Jesus drifts onto his right foot in the box and whips a stunning finish into the far corner.

Sevilla 0-1 Arsenal

21:11 , Matt Verri

50 mins: Jesus is playing with so much confidence.

It's another glorious turn, again the defenders are sent completely the wrong way.

Ball is then clipped in towards him, can't get enough pace on the header.

Sevilla 0-1 Arsenal

21:09 , Matt Verri

48 mins: Even better chance!

Martinelli wins the ball back, Jesus looks to lob the goalkeeper but it's charged down.

Rebound falls for Odegaard, goalkeeper off his line but it's a wild finish. Just swung as hard as he could at the ball.

Sevilla 0-1 Arsenal

21:08 , Matt Verri

47 mins: Lovely football at the start of the half from Arsenal.

Work their way out of trouble, Odegaard free on the edge of the box and his shot is blocked. White then lets fly from distance, well over the bar.

Back underway!

21:05 , Matt Verri

Up and running for the second-half!

Special goal!

20:59 , Matt Verri

The Brazilian duo combine superbly...

Simon Collings at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium

20:54 , Matt Verri

No monitors in press box to see the replay of that goal, but my word, what a turn by Jesus.

Sold a couple of defenders and the whole stadium.

HT: Sevilla 0-1 Arsenal

20:52 , Matt Verri

That's the final kick of the half.

It was a poor first 45 minutes from both sides really, but a bit of quality at last breaks the deadlock.

Arsenal in front at the break.

GOAL! Sevilla 0-1 Arsenal | Gabriel Martinelli 45+4'

20:50 , Matt Verri

And it is an absolutely sensational counter. Jesus with the Cruyff turn, completely does two Sevilla defenders.

Plays the pass, Martinelli clean through on goal with half the pitch to himself. Keeps his cool, round the goalkeeper and into the empty net.

Sevilla 0-0 Arsenal

20:47 , Matt Verri

45+1 mins: Sevilla finally burst into life.

Ramos' move out of defence started in. En-Nesyri straight through the middle of the defence, gets the shot away under pressure from Tomiyasu... drags it wide.

Sevilla 0-0 Arsenal

20:46 , Matt Verri

45 mins: Navas tries to beat Tomiyasu about six times, can't do so on any of those occasions.

This has been a really low-quality half from both sides, little to get excited about.

Four minutes added on, then we can forget it ever happened.

Sevilla 0-0 Arsenal

20:42 , Matt Verri

41 mins: Both Martinelli and Sow are back up and fine to continue.

Rakitic takes the free-kick, crossed straight to Raya. Jesus then brings the ball right up the pitch by himself, eventually winning a throw-in. Had no options there, really good work.

Simon Collings at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium

20:41 , Matt Verri

Arsenal need to see more from Martinelli. He missed a great chance early on and has been loose on the ball at times.

Up against an ageing Jesus Navas, he needs to be doing better.

Sevilla 0-0 Arsenal

20:40 , Matt Verri

39 mins: Chance for Sevilla, as the ball is played across the face of the Arsenal goal. Nobody there for the hosts for a tap-in.

Martinelli and Sow then challenge in the air, it's Sevilla who win the free-kick.

Both have stayed down though.

Sevilla 0-0 Arsenal

20:38 , Matt Verri

37 mins: Saliba charges out of defence with the ball, wide to Martinelli.

It's a really poor ball though, and Martinelli can't catch up with it. Out for a goal-kick.

Sevilla 0-0 Arsenal

20:36 , Matt Verri

34 mins: Not moving particularly well, but Saka is back on.

Already some question marks over his fitness - that isn't going to help.

Sevilla 0-0 Arsenal

20:34 , Matt Verri

32 mins: Odegaard has barely had a kick so far. Rare chance for him to make an impact, but pass is slightly behind Saka.

That allows Ocampos time to get back and clatter into him - no foul given. Saka has stayed down though, in a fair bit of pain.

Sevilla 0-0 Arsenal

20:30 , Matt Verri

29 mins: Saka has all sorts of space down the right wing, chance for Arsenal.

Skips past his man, onto that left foot and goes for goal... blocked. Wouldn't have been the first time we've seen him find the far corner from there.

Simon Collings at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium

20:28 , Matt Verri

It was a glorious day in Seville today, but it is chucking it down now.

Few Arsenal fans in the away end, which is not covered, regretting going shirtless I think.

Sevilla 0-0 Arsenal

20:28 , Matt Verri

26 mins: Long spell of Sevilla possession, as much of the ball as they've seen all night.

Arsenal comfortable out of possession though, the hosts haven't been able to cut them open yet.

The Gunners then do win it back, Rice drives into the box but he can't get the cut-back right.

Sevilla 0-0 Arsenal

20:24 , Matt Verri

23 mins: That's a very decent chance for Jesus, who is frustrated with himself.

Time to get the ball out of his feet in the box, curls the shot beyond the far corner though.

Sevilla 0-0 Arsenal

20:23 , Matt Verri

21 mins: Arsenal very lucky.

Mistake at the back as they try and pass out, Sevilla should punish them. Ball fizzed in, Lukebakio can't take it in his path.

Sevilla 0-0 Arsenal

20:21 , Matt Verri

19 mins: Sevilla do look dangerous when they get numbers forward.

Navas clips a ball to the back post, nobody there in white shirt. Acuna then drags Saka down - that's two fouls for him on Saka.

We could hit double figures, I reckon. By half-time.

Sevilla 0-0 Arsenal

20:17 , Matt Verri

16 mins: Rakitic with a dreadful pass and Martinelli is able to charge forward on the counter.

Sow pulls him back though, and Soumare then clatters into him to complete the job. Both do well to avoid bookings.

Simon Collings at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium

20:16 , Matt Verri

Tomiyasu is inverting from left-back, as Zinchenko does, but he is pushing so high up too.

He's almost in the areas that Granit Xhaka used to occupy.

Sevilla 0-0 Arsenal

20:15 , Matt Verri

14 mins: Arsenal passing the ball around really nicely, it's been a confident start from the Gunners.

Sevilla happy to sit off for now and let the Arsenal defenders have the ball.

Sevilla 0-0 Arsenal

20:12 , Matt Verri

11 mins: Entertaining start to this match.

Ocampos gets across his man at the near post, flicks an effort wide.

Going to be a miracle if this finishes 0-0.

Sevilla 0-0 Arsenal

20:10 , Matt Verri

8 mins: That would have been fairly special.

Gudelj the best part of 40 yards out, decides that's firmly in range and goes for goal. About 40 yards over the bar.

At the other end, massive chance for Arsenal!

Visitors fly forward on the counter, Jesus plays Martinelli clean through. Nyland makes a huge save.

Sevilla 0-0 Arsenal

20:08 , Matt Verri

6 mins: Rice with a great run down the left, not his best ball into the box but it's a pretty terrible clearance from Ramos.

Arsenal stay on the attack, Tomiyasu fires an effort at goal from a tight angle. Dragged wide. He's playing really high up the pitch.

Sevilla 0-0 Arsenal

20:05 , Matt Verri

4 mins: Saka drifts inside off the right wing, Acuna swiftly on the scene to bring him down.

Dare say that won't be the first time Saka is fouled tonight...

Sevilla 0-0 Arsenal

20:04 , Matt Verri

3 mins: Neither side able to get much control in the very early stages.

Jesus putting his body around up front as ever, but this is a Sevilla defence very much up for the fight.

20:01 , Matt Verri

We're up and running in Seville!

Simon Collings at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium

Some atmosphere here. The PA system went off just before the players came out the tunnel and the home fans started singing.

They haven't stopped and you can't even hear the Champions League anthem.

Here we go...

Players are out onto the pitch.

As ever, serious atmosphere in Seville. Going to be a real test this for the Gunners.

Arteta explains Partey absence

19:53 , Matt Verri

“Thomas [Partey] picked up an injury yesterday in training, unfortunately it’s a muscle injury.

"We don’t know the extent of it. A big miss for us.”

Stand by!

Just over ten minutes to go until kick-off in Spain.

Big night for Arsenal, who are unbeaten domestically this season but have produced a number of unconvincing performances.

Would be a major statement if they were able to take charge against Sevilla tonight and get their European campaign back on track.

Reminder that Real Madrid could only draw here over the weekend...

A nice moment just now.

The Arsenal fans were singing Jose Antonio Reyes' name and the Sevilla supporters responded by applauding.

Arsenal must respond

19:39 , Matt Verri

It is not yet win or bust for Arsenal in the Champions League, but Mikel Arteta knows the importance of a victory here in Spain, writes Simon Collings.

The Gunners are looking to bounce back against Sevilla after losing at Lens in their last Group B fixture three weeks ago.

Many in the Arsenal squad are playing in the Champions League for the first time and that chastening night in France was a lesson in how tough winning away in this competition is.

Arteta’s side have shown themselves to be quick learners under the Spaniard and they will need to be to get their European campaign back on track.

Champions League debut for Martinelli

19:32 , Matt Verri

Injury has disrupted Gabriel Martinelli’s start to the season, but he is now fit and firing and makes his Champions League debut tonight.

Martinelli is an important weapon for Arteta, offering Arsenal a directness that is different to their other wingers.

He will look to rotate positions with Jesus in an attempt to confuse Sevilla’s defence and create space.

Ramos determined to roll back the years

19:26 , Matt Verri

After rejoining his boyhood club, Sergio Ramos wants to finish his career with a flourish. Now 37, Ramos is still full of fight and has experience to go with his physical style.

Never one to shy away from confrontation, Ramos was accused of elbowing Jude Bellingham at the weekend. The centre-back will look to get close to Gabriel Jesus and impose himself from the off.

Interesting decision from Mikel Arteta...

Jorginho: Havertz is an amazing player

19:13 , Matt Verri

Jorginho has backed Kai Havertz to come good at Arsenal.

Havertz has struggled since his £65million summer move from Chelsea, managing just one goal and one assist in 13 appearances. He once again has to settle for a place on the bench tonight.

Jorginho said: “I think Kai has so much potential.

“I have tried to stay close to him, because to be honest he is a great guy and an amazing footballer. He has just arrived at the club. There are so many new things for him to adapt to and learn.

“Of course, he is going to show so much, but I think he is doing well. I’m sure he is hungry for much more and I’m sure he will do it.”

Sevilla team news

Starting XI: Nyland, Navas, Ramos, Gudelj, Acuna, Sow,Soumare, Rakitic, Lukebakio, En-Nesyri, Ocampos.

Subs: Dmitrovic, Gattoni, Pedrosa, Suso, Jordan, Mir, Mariano,Kouassi, Lamela, Torres, Bade, Sanchez.

One change for Arsenal

19:04 , Matt Verri

As we suggested earlier, no Thomas Partey in the squad for Arsenal tonight.

It means Jorginho keeps his place in midfield, with the Gunners making just one change from the draw with Chelsea. That sees Takehiro Tomiyasu start at left-back, with Oleksandr Zinchenko dropping to the bench.

Kai Havertz and Leandro Trossard among the substitutes too, as it the returning Aaron Ramsdale.

Trossard predicts tight title race

18:53 , Matt Verri

Arsenal winger Leandro Trossard believes this season’s title race will go right to the wire.

The Gunners continued their unbeaten start when they fought back from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 at Chelsea on Saturday.

And Trossard believes the start of this season, with just four points splitting the top five in the table, has shown how this year’s title race will be a close one.

“Obviously there are a lot of teams who have strengthened their squads and it will be a close call at the end,” he said.

“But it is still early on and we need to take it game by game and try to win every game.

Partey set to miss out

18:44 , Matt Verri

It sounds like there will be no Thomas Partey in the Arsenal squad tonight.

Full confirmation of that to come when we get the team news, which should land very shortly...

Elsewhere in the Champions League...

18:37 , Matt Verri

It's half-time in the early kick-offs.

Arteta backs Raya

18:28 , Matt Verri

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has dismissed concerns that David Raya is suffering from a crisis of confidence.

Raya has come under scrutiny for his performances lately, with the goalkeeper lobbed by Mykhailo Mudryk’s cross during Saturday’s 2-2 draw at Chelsea.

Arteta has insisted he will not drop players based on errors and Raya is expected to keep his place for Tuesday’s game against Sevilla.

When asked if Raya is suffering with the spotlight, Arteta said: “I haven’t seen that. If I am fair, I haven’t seen that at all.

“That’s the pressure of playing in big clubs where you have to win and you have to be at your best, and you have someone next to you who is pushing you every single day.

“If we go player, by player, position by position, you will tell me what’s happening at left-back, what happens with the holding-midfielder.

“You asked Jorginho a question already and Gabriel Jesus is here, there’s another question on that. That’s the debate."

Stage is set!

18:21 , Matt Verri

Our man Simon Collings is in position in Seville.

How it stands...

18:16 , Matt Verri

Lens lead the way in Group B with four points from their opening two games, after beating Arsenal last time out.

The Gunners have three points, ahead of Sevilla with two and PSV on just the one.

It's all very tight then, heading towards the halfway stage of the group. Victory tonight and Arsenal will be looking good - defeat... not so much.

Jorginho gives contract update

18:08 , Matt Verri

Jorginho is yet to hold any talks with the club over a new deal, although the Arsenal midfielder is happy in north London.

The Italian moved to Arsenal in January, arriving from Chelsea for a fee in the region of £12million.

Jorginho’s current contract is due to expire at the end of this season, although there is the option to extend it.

The 31-year-old has not held any talks with Arsenal over that yet, but he has insisted that he is settled at the club.

“No, I haven’t had any conversations to be honest,” he said yesterday. “And the only thing I can say is that I feel really good here and I am really happy at Arsenal.

“I didn’t think [about it] to be honest with you! I am thinking about tomorrow.”

Hosts in the building!

18:02 , Matt Verri

Sevilla arrived at the stadium earlier this afternoon... very keen.

Standard Sport prediction

17:56 , Matt Verri

Arsenal were a long way off their best against Lens, losing Bukayo Saka to injury early on and that set the tone for the night.

Arteta's side were poor too for much of the match against Chelsea on Saturday, offering very little in attack before eventually battling back to earn a point.

Sevilla showed against Real Madrid that they are capable of making things difficult, particularly at home, and an Arsenal side still struggling to click in forward areas could drop more points.

Draw, 1-1.

Arsenal team news

17:49 , Matt Verri

Aaron Ramsdale missed the Chelsea match due to his wife giving birth to a baby boy, but the Gunners should have him back in contention to face Sevilla.

That will provide Arteta with a selection headache, after David Raya's struggles at Stamford Bridge. Kai Havertz is also pushing to start.

Thomas Partey could come back into the side, with Jorginho likely dropping out, while Leandro Trossard, Fabio Vieira and Takehiro Tomiyasu are all pushing for starts too. Jurrien Timber remains the only long-term injury absentee.

Predicted Arsenal XI (4-3-3): Raya; White, Saliba, Gabriel, Tomiyasu; Odegaard, Rice, Havertz; Saka, Jesus, Martinelli

Sevilla team news

17:42 , Matt Verri

Sevilla have former Tottenham winger Erik Lamela available again after a muscle injury, but Marcao and Mariano Diaz are expected to miss out.

Sergio Ramos is expected to captain the side again after his summer return to the club, with Jesus Navas and Marcos Acuna likely tasked with keeping Arsenal's wide players quiet.
