Updated: Serious accident investigated on Tates Creek in Lexington. Road reopened.

All outbound lanes of Tates Creek Road were shut down Thursday afternoon following a serious collision near the intersection of Gainesway Drive, according to the Lexington Traffic Management Center.

The outbound lanes of Tates Creek Road were shut down between Kirklevington Drive and Gainesway Drive just after 3 p.m. Thursday while police investigated. The road reopened around 4:35 p.m.

Police said that an 8-year-old girl was in a crosswalk with her family when a car hit the girl. She is in the hospital with life-threatening injuries, police said.

Police were not able to give an update on the child’s condition as of Friday morning.

The driver was cooperative and stayed at the scene, police said. They don’t suspect that impairment was the cause of the accident.

Multiple police and fire personnel responded to the collision.
