Selena Gomez's upcoming Netflix film Emilia Pérez finally has a release date.

The film, written and directed by Paris' Jacques Audiard, follows the story of lawyer Rita Moro Castro (Zoe Saldaña), who's abducted in order to help a Mexican cartel leader undergo gender-affirming surgery.

Gomez is set to appear in the film as Jessi Del Monte alongside the likes of Karla Sofía Gascón, Adriana Paz, Point Break star Édgar Ramírez and Heart of Stone's Mark Ivanir.

Following its release in French theatres on August 13, the musical crime dramedy is set to be released in selected cinemas in autumn, before arriving on the streaming service on November 13.

A first-look trailer for Emilia Pérez teased scenes of Rita being taken, as well as a meeting between Emilia and Rita some time later when she seeks her help once again, as she wants to be reunited with her children in Mexico.

After screening at this year's Cannes Film Festival, Emilia Pérez came away with the Jury Prize and the Best Actress award, shared between co-stars Gomez, Gascón, Paz and Saldaña. Gascón made history as the first trans star to win a major acting prize at Cannes.

Ahead of the film's release, Gomez spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about how she was drawn to the project.

"I have spent a lot of my life trying to break the mold and the perception of who I am," she said. "However, I don't mind it because I don’t pay attention to it.

"Jacques (Audiard, the movie's director), who really didn't know anything about me, took a chance and believed in me simply based on what I was able to do, and that was really special for me.

"I think this is a really big deal, and I choose projects according to the filmmaker, to the content, to the meaning, all of it."

Emilia Pérez comes to Netflix on November 13.
