See beautiful, epic view of Sierra Nevada’s historic snowy winter above mountain peaks

A new drone video soars above the snowy peaks of the Sierra Nevada, offering an epic view of Northern California’s historic 2023 winter.

The video was shot March 18, 2023 by Palisades Tahoe, near Lake Tahoe, and also offers footage of its twin ski resort Alpine Meadows. On Tuesday, the resort received 12 more inches of snow over 24 hours to bring the season snowfall total to 690 inches, or 57.5 feet. Other area ski resorts have seen similar amounts of snow.

“That is about the height of 10 Toyota Tacomas if they were stacked on top of each other,” a resort representative said in an email. “Only 10 more inches until we reach 700.”

The top year — 812 inches in 1952 — will be hard to beat.

However, the latest storms have made 2023 the snowiest October-February period since 1970. It’s the second snowiest time since 1946, when the Central Sierra Snow Lab near Donner Summit started recording.
