A security guard in Scotland has earned widespread admiration for a small but generous act outside a grocery store.
On June 28, a Twitter user with the handle MelGracie_ shared a photo of 23-year-old Ethan Dearman holding an umbrella over a dog waiting outside a local Morrisons.
“Shout out to this Morrisons security man keeping this good boy dry,” the user wrote. “He said ‘well you never know how dogs feel about the rain.'”
The photo has since gone viral, receiving more than 154,000 likes and nearly 21,000 comments, including a thank you from the dog’s owner himself.

“Thanks to security man dearmanethan for putting the umbrella over Freddie when it started to rain!” owner David Cherry wrote. “So kind! He’s always so nice to my brother Stuart, my Dad and our Freddie! Here’s Freddie when he was a puppy!”
“This is my local supermarket,” another person wrote. “Such a lovely person to do this. Well done to this guy for showing that there is still people in the world that notice others including animals and do little things like this to show empathy for other souls. My daughter thinks he is a hero. Legend!”
In an interview with Insider, Dearman, who has worked at Morrisons for two months, said he was just trying to help when he borrowed one of the store’s extra umbrellas.
“I try to keep an eye out for dogs,” he said.
The security guard also admitted that he has been overwhelmed by the response he has received.
“It allows me to cross one thing off my bucket list: becoming famous for doing something good,” he said.
