Scottie Scheffler, the top-ranked golfer in the world, has committed to play Colonial

The best golfer in the world is headed to Fort Worth next week.

Scottie Scheffler, the reigning Masters champion who has been the top-ranked player in the world since March 27, was among the late commitments for next week’s Charles Schwab Challenge at Colonial Country Club.

Scheffler had been undecided on whether he’d play but added his name to the mix just before Friday’s deadline.

Scheffler will be playing his third consecutive Colonial. He missed the cut last year and finished tied for 55th in 2020.

With Scheffler, Colonial now has six of the top 10 players in the world committed. Scheffler is joined by Collin Morikawa (3), Viktor Hovland (6), Jordan Spieth (8), Justin Thomas (9) and Xander Schauffele (10).

Other players expected to compete include TCU products Tom Hoge and Paul Barjon. Jason Kokrak returns as the defending champion.

Tournament rounds are scheduled to start next Thursday (May 26-29).
