Scotland defender Grant Hanley relishing England clash at Euros: ‘What more motivation do you need?’

Grant Hanley believes Scotland’s clash with England could be the perfect game to get their Euro 2020 campaign back on track as nothing will motivate them more than getting a result at Wembley.

Scotland suffered heartbreak in their Group D opener on Monday after losing 2-0 to the Czech Republic at Hampden Park.

Patrik Schick scored twice, including once from near the halfway line, and now Scotland head to Wembley knowing they need at least a point to kickstart their campaign.

They currently sit bottom of Group D and defeat to England would be a hammer blow to their chances of qualifying for the knockouts, although they could sneak through as one of the four best third-placed teams.

“We’re playing England at Wembley in the Euros. So what more motivation do you need? It’s definitely a game we’re looking forward to,” said Scotland defender Hanley.

“It’s the old cliche, you’ve got to play the game, not the occasion. We’ll be prepared and we’ll be positive. That’s the way we’ll go into it.

“There are three games in the group stage and we know what we’ve got to do to react. The points and the goal remain the same.”
