A Ferrari F1-2000 Formula 1 race car helmed by Michael Schumacher during his inaugural championship run for the Tifosi is heading to auction with RM Sotheby’s. More specifically, the Brazilian Grand Prix winning race car is being offered by way of a sealed auction from April 3-12.

It was with the Ferrari F1-2000 that Michael Schumacher transformed himself into an icon forever associated with the Maranello automaker. While Schumacher had already won two championships with Benetton before joining Ferrari in 1996, his era of utter dominance began with the F1-2000. During the 17-race season in 2000, Schumacher managed to secure nine pole positions and nine victories behind the wheel of the F1-2000. Fellow Ferrari racer Rubens Barichello managed a win with the F1-2000 as well.

This particular car, Chassis 198, was driven to victory at the Brazilian Grand Prix by Schumacher, as well as a pole position and fifth place finish at the Spanish Grand Prix. This is also the only Ferrari that Schumacher ever put on pole ahead of a Monaco Grand Prix. Schumacher nearly took home the win at that race too, but a failed pushrod saw the Ferrari retire from the event. Chassis 198 took to the grid for the last time at Austrian, but failed to finish the event after Ricardo Zonta crashed into the Ferrari. The car was subsequently repaired and brought to the remaining races that season, but was not entered following the Austrian incident. Ferrari would later display the car at Geneva in 2001, before selling the car to collector Kevin Crowder. The seller then acquired the car in 2016, and has used the F1 racer in a number of Corse Clienti track days.

Getting your hands on an ex-Schumacher F1 car is not a cheap endeavor. A few examples have traded hands in recent years, including Schumacher’s 1998 F300, which recently sold for $6,220,000 in August of 2022. Nothing has been able to rival the sale prices of Schumacher’s F2003-GA however, which sold for an eye-watering $14.9 million last November. Chassis 198 has a fairly prestigious history behind it, which could play a role in making it an eight-figure car.
