Schitt's Creek star Catherine O'Hara joins new Pixar movie Elemental
Schitt's Creek star Catherine O'Hara has joined the voice cast of the upcoming movie Elemental.
Studio Pixar has just released the first full trailer for the animated movie, which introduces us to an extraordinary place called Element City.
As we're told by Ember (voiced by Nancy Drew's Leah Lewis), Element City is where all the elements — air, earth, water and fire — live and work.
Ember has always stayed close to her home of Firetown. She's the daughter of soon-to-be-retired Bernie, who owns the store Fireplace. Bernie calls Fireplace "the dream" of their family, and he intends to pass it on to Ember.
But the universe has other plans.
The trailer tells us that in Element City, the residents live by "one simple rule: Elements cannot mix". But for Ember, that rule is about to be broken when she's accidentally introduced to Wade, a water element.
Wade should be Ember's polar opposite, but the pair find out they actually have a lot in common. And while Ember worries about what her parents might think of their friendship, Wade shows her just how much she's been missing out on all these years.
Jurassic World: Dominion's Mamoudou Athie voices Wade, while O'Hara takes on the role of Wade's loving mother Brook.
Peter Sohn (The Good Dinosaur, Lightyear, Ratatouille) directs the film, with Denise Ream (Up, Cars 2, The Good Dinosaur) producing.
Elemental gives some real Inside Out vibes — which is pretty fitting considering Pixar announced a surprise sequel to Inside Out in September 2022.
The sequel film will be released in summer 2024 and will see Amy Poehler reprise her voice role as Riley.
Speaking about the sequel when appearing on the D23 Expo panel back in 2022, Poehler revealed it will take place when Riley is a teenager. She also teased: "I guess I won't tell them about the new emotions that show up. Inside Out 2 comes out summer of 2024."
Elemental will be released in cinemas on June 16.
